TIGERS RISE IN ESCAPE FROM ‘ROOS

TIGERS RISE; ESCAPE FROM ‘ROOS
LAKELAND TIGERS

The Lakeland Tigers moved to the 2nd spot on the Major League Footy 2018-19 Premiership Season ladder, having pulled off two nail-biting wins over the Orlando Kangas Saturday.

Game One saw the Tigers (5-3, 20 points) build an early 19-1 advantage before a furious Kangas rally found the sides knotted at 47 heading into the break.

Lakeland overcame a late Ben McIntosh super goal – his third of the affair – in squeaking out a 103-98 final tally.

That result was only the beginning of the tension, however, as the Tigers would need a late major to run out 51-50 winners in Game Two.

McIntosh – who will play his final footy in the States before returning home to Queensland – notched an unlikely five supers on the day, as the sides combined for 302 total points, setting a new MLF scoring high-water mark.

With the result, Lakeland rises into prime position in the race to the Major League Footy playoffs, moving 8 points ahead of 4th seed Starfish FC.

The Kangas, meanwhile, will now look to this Saturday’s twin-bill with the table-topping St. Petersburg Swans in an effort to get their season back on track.

At 1-3 (4 points), the Kangas have the benefit of six games remaining (including this weekend’s tilt) in their drive to stay relevant on the campaign.
