Needing at least one positive result to stay relevant in the race for 2018-’19 Major League Footy Premiership Season playoffs, the Suncoast Suns parlayed a massive comeback to take Game One by a score of 49-46 in Saturday’s showdown with a brave Tampa Bay Bombers side.
The Bombers, who came in at just 2-6 on the season, raced out to a 38-11 advantage at the halftime break, only to see their fortunes reversed in the second half, as Suncoast put up a brutal 38-8 trouncing in the period.
While Game Two – played in humid, sultry conditions – would see Tampa Bay bounce back to claim a salving 44-36 win, the proceedings see the Suns stay solidly in contention at 3-5 (12 points), with two matches in hand as they seek to climb up from the #4 seed on the Major League Footy ladder.
Tampa Bay falls to a disappointing 3-7 mark on the campaign, and are all-but eliminated for playoff contention.
In the Major League Footy playoff format, the Top Three seeds on the ladder at the end of the Premiership season move on to the playoffs, with the #2 and #3 sides meeting in a preliminary.
The Major League Footy Winter Championship Final will be played Saturday, April 20, 2019.
