A late-summer surge has boosted a newly-relevant Starfish FC side into prime position in the run home of the 2018 Major League Footy Premiership Season.

Heading into the Labor Day holiday, the ‘Fish looked to be headed for the Wooden Spoon, mired with a 1-4 mark and the circuit’s second-worst percentages.

What a difference two weeks can make.

Sweeping each of the past two weekend matinee twin-bills, the St. Petersburg side has maximized their opportunities in turning aside the Lakeland Tigers and Suncoast Suns in successive weeks.

Those results effectively saw the scrappy Blue and Gold end the seasons of both opponents.

That run has seen them climb all the way to second on the ladder as the season heads into its final three weeks of head-to-head play.

In putting up 134 combined points Saturday against a brave Suns side, the Starfish also played a hand in the single-highest scoring day of the 2018 Major League Footy season, as Suncoast totaled 110 on a day the offenses reigned in sultry conditions.

With one final double-header to close out the season (September 29), the ‘Fish seemingly control their own destiny, although that battle with the Florida Lions (4-2, and also looking to seal a Finals berth) will be no cakewalk.
