With much of the USA Midwest and Northeast bracing for the season’s first snow to fall, footy fans in Florida are calling ‘Ball Up!’, as the Inaugural Campaign of Major League Footy – the Florida Winter League of Australian Football heats up with the St. Petersburg Swans taking on Orlando at 11 AM Saturday in St. Pete.
The first season of Major League Footy winter action runs through the traditional ‘off-season’, with a Championship Final on February 25, 2017, and features seven sides comprised of co-ed members of the Tampa Bay ARFC player list representing communities around Central Florida.
Each side was stocked with players selected in the 2016 Winter Footy Player Draft, November 11 in St. Petersburg, and the Kangas and Swans look to contest the winter flag, along with a very strong Pasco Black Dog side, not to mention the stacked Florida Redbacks historical list.
Unless noted, all 2016-17 Major League Footy winter matches will coincide with trainings at the Common at Crescent Lake in St. Petersburg. All trainings and practices are always free, and are open to co-ed players of all ages and skill level. New recruits are always welcome!
