SAINTS CRUSH SWANS; TIGHTEN FLAG CHASE
A pinpoint game of ball control and the big leg of Miami tall Neil Cohen spirited the host Miami Saints to a resounding 100-49 win over the St. Petersburg Swans, Saturday in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
With the proceedings delayed thirty minutes by a riotous South Florida thunderstorm, St. Petersburg may have wished for an even more extended pause – if only to gather their pre-game strategy.
Despite two majors by a free-running Ben McIntosh in the game’s first minute, the tide would quickly roll back to the hosts, who ran to a 17-point margin at the first break.
After a injury scare to Cohen that left the Saints momentarily depleted, the visitors were able to eke closer, winning the second quarter to keep the result in question at the half at 52-40.
That bit of optimism would elude the out-of-towners in the second half, as Miami intensified pressure up-front to march to a 39-point second half margin and a 100-49 final result.
McIntosh, Clint Jones and Matt Elliott paced the Swans on the day, while Cohen was assisted by long-time teammates Tom Hecker and Anthony Colarusso.
The result improves Miami to 3-1 on the season, while St. Petersburg drops to 5-2. With both Swans’ losses being blowout affairs, the ladder-leaders have failed to maximize percentages. With a slim four-point advantage in head-to-head scoring in a series tied at one win apiece, St. Petersburg find themselves with precious little margin for error against their cross-state rivals.
