MLF 2018-19

Major League Footy moves to a Premiership Season running October-March, beginning this Autumn. Play will begin October 27, with the Championship Final Saturday, April 20, 2019. The full schedule will be announced Tuesday, October 9, 2018.

With the conclusion of the 2018 Summer Premiership Season only just in the rear-view after last weekend’s Starfish FC 120-114 win over the St. Petersburg Swans, Major League Footy is set for a most unusual ‘offseason’.

Already announced is an October 27 Season Opener for the 2018-19 campaign, fittingly a rematch between the Swans and ‘Fish.

That schedule means a four-week break will follow the 26-week Summer schedule, an arduous task, to be sure.

As the independent circuit of 7-a-side Australian Football looks to expand its footprint, the competition has announced a pivot to an October – March head-to-head season, followed by a Finals series that will culminate with a Championship Final, April 20, 2019.

Major League Footy matches will be played on select Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with 7 PM start times. A number of Saturday and Sunday day games will round out the fixture.

Entering the 2018-19 Season, 8 sides will each be slated for a minimum of eight MLF matches. Three sides will qualify for the Finals, with the top seed receiving a bye as the 2nd and 3rd seeds meet in a Preliminary Final April 13, 2019.

Club lists will be set in a territorial draft to be held October 18. Seven sides will participate in a four round draft to establish their core player lists for the 7-a-side, 10-player roster lists.

After a Summer that consistently saw game-time temperatures hovering around 100 F (the ‘feels like’ temp for the September 29 Championship registered at 108 F), an October – March fixture will see the Florida-based sides play in more ‘footy- appropriate’ conditions.

The Major League Footy 2018-19 Premiership Season schedule will be released Tuesday, October 9.
