MLF LADDER BATTLE IN HIGH GEAR FOR WEEK 23
A crowd at the the top of the 2018 Major League Footy Premiership Season ladder could see a bit of a clear-out this weekend.
With the Miami Saints visiting cross-state rivals the St. Petersburg Swans this Saturday, and the Florida Lions joining to make it a three-match carnival with playoff implications, all hands find their Finals hopes on the line.
For St. Petersburg (5-3) – losers of two straight after a scintillating start to the season – it’s essentially ‘win or go home’ for the 2018 MLF Finals.
With four games to go, the surging Lions stand at 4-2, and with a bit more breathing room.
The Lions finish their regular season with a twin-bill vs Starfish FC (5-4) on September 29 in a match-up that could decide a Finals spot for the Leos.
The Saints (3-1) may also end up on the outside looking in, due to their abbreviated season (a midsummer visit to Central Florida was cancelled, giving the Saints a harder chance at the Finals). Still, they can surely wreak havoc on the top of the table.
In previous match-ups this season, the Swans and Saints have both been big winners at home, with St. Pete taking a 66-11 win over Miami on April 14. The Halos returned the favor at Crossaint Park in Ft. Lauderdale, June 23 in a 51-point rout of their own.
With extreme conditions (temperatures nearing 100 F), expected this weekend in St. Petersburg, a high-stakes three-game set promises to tax everyone on the ground.
The club left standing will likely be able to punch their Finals ticket.
