MLF Footy 9s umpiring is fun, rewarding, and a great way to stay fit!

Unlike other codes of football, where the official is called a referee, in Footy 9s the officials are called umpires.

There are two different types of umpires in Footy 9s:

Field Umpires – responsible for throwing the ball up after each goal and during stoppages, plus awarding marks and free kicks.

Goal Umpires – the official score keepers who signal goals.

Good umpiring enhances the game as a spectacle, adds to the enjoyment of spectators and contributes to the safety of players.

To the players, coaches, team officials and spectators, the match in which they are participating is the most important match played that day. They look to the umpire to manage it accordingly.

Whilst this places great responsibility upon the umpire, it also provides one of the most exciting challenges in sport.

Umpiring in Major League Footy is fun, rewarding and a great way to keep fit!

If you are interested in becoming an umpire – whether field or goal – we look forward to hearing from you.
