MAJOR LEAGUE FOOTY WEEKLY ROUND-UP, 02/22
With this weekend’s Championship Final pitting the Suncoast Suns (3-0) and St. Petersburg Swans (2-1), the Inaugural season of Major League Footy – The Florida Winter League of Australian Football – is racing to a finish.
Fittingly, the Florida Winter Premiership will be decided by the sides that finished 1-2 on the ladder, and also ranked first and second in both scoring and points differential.
After the Swans narrowly escaped elimination by virtue of a late rally last week against Florida – a surge that could arguably be attributed to a second half wave of injuries suffered by the Redbacks – they’ll now face a Suns side that will be missing winter captain Kenneth Scheidt, a big blow to the Suncoast backline.
After nine rounds of winter footy, the Florida circuit’s off-season metro circuit has featured compelling matches, often punctuated by see-saw affairs that have seen sides roar back after big early deficits.
That’s especially true of last weekend’s Swans-Redbacks affair, and a theme St. Pete should look to avoid.
The match begins at 11 AM, following weekly training sessions on the Common at Crescent Lake.
Major League Footy is the Florida Winter League of Australian Football, with seven sides comprised of players on the Tampa Bay ARFC co-ed player list.
