KEGLOR’S AFTER-SIREN 6 GIVES KANGAS SWEEP
Jake Keglor’s 30 yard goal after the siren pulled the Clearwater Kangas to a 5.9.39 – 5.5.35 win in the second game of Saturday’s Week 9 double-header, giving the previously winless Clearwater side (2-2) a sweep of the Tampa Bay Bombers (1-2).
With both games tight contests featuring some of the best footy of the season, the shock results on the day began with a big early lead for Clearwater in Game One.
Austen Kugler, Dustin Jones and Jordan Calero cracked the Kangas out to a quick 30-7 lead that saw the Shinboners kick the first five majors.
After a furious rally in the second stanza saw Tampa Bay draw to within 2 points, the Kangas regrouped late to score the last 7 points and seal the Game One win.
With the day’s footy played with an ‘AFLX clock’ (two 10-minute halves), both matches displayed an urgency befitting two club’s battling in the sunny but sultry conditions.
The ‘feels like temperature at ball in Game One was 101 degrees (F).
The second match would also prove to be a hotly-fought battle throughout, with the Bombers squeaking to a 3.1.19 – 2.4.16 lead at the break.
2018 MLF Scoring Leader Ben McIntosh upped his goal total to 33 on the season for Tampa Bay.
Clearwater proved able to hang around just long enough in the back and forth affair to set up Keglor’s goal with Tampa Bay ahead by two at the siren.
With 30 yards between himself and the victory, Keglor did the rest.
The result evens Clearwater at 2-2 on the campaign, and propels the Kangas into 3rd place on the 2018 Major League Footy Premiership Season ladder. The Bombers fall to 1-2.
