St. Pete Swans’ Tim Kleman made his 2017 debut, sparking StarfishFC to an intra-squad win Saturday in St. Pete

Putting up eleven majors after intermission, the ‘law firm’ offense fueled by St. Petersburg Swans’ intra-squad players Kleman, Jones, Walker & Scheidt helped StarfishFC notch their first win of the 2016-’17 Major League Footy Florida Winter League Season; running out 27-point winners over Clearwater at Crescent Lake in St. Petersburg.

Powering out to a lightning-fast 19-0 run after first bounce, Greg Bray and his charges saw their early lead tighten up, as Clearwater battle back gamely to trail by just four at the big break.

What followed though, was an offensive outburst paced by Dustin Jones and Tim Kleman, with solid work in ruck from Benjamin Walker and trademark fight of Ken Scheidt in front pocket.

With Walker winning taps consistently, the ‘Fish followed a seemingly choreographed attack, with Kleman and Bray feeding Jones and Scheidt. Jones was particularly on point, putting up 7 majors during the proceedings.

With a temperatures in the mid-70s, both teams seemed to get stronger as the game moved along, as Clearwater answered with four goals on their own in a hotly-contested third stanza, with CJ Morton and captain Dionne Jones complementing solid defense from Basil Benjamin and cracking all-round work from veteran Jaron Weaver and rookie Nick Orr.

Tim Kleman was awarded Best on Ground in his first action of the Winter season.

The Kangas (0-1-0) will have an opportunity to bounce back into the thick of things next Saturday at 11 AM, as they take on the ladder-leading Suncoast Suns (2-0-0).

A Suns win would move Suncoast to 3-0 on the abbreviated winter season, putting massive pressure on the Swans in the process.
