KANGAS, ORLANDO LOOK TO AVOID WINTER WOODEN SPOON

0204ORCLWLooking to avoid the wooden spoon for the Major League Footy 2016-’17 Florida Winter League Season, the Clearwater Kangas (0-2) will host Orlando AFC Saturday at Crescent Lake Common in St. Pete.

While Orlando winter captain Basil Benjamin and Clearwater skipper Dionne Jones emerged from the 2016 Winter Footy Draft seemingly each stocked with some of the best of Tampa Bay ARFC’s co-ed senior list, both have seen their plans go off the rails on the ground.

Orlando – drubbed by 48 points in the winter season opener back in November – is in the earliest growing pains in an ongoing effort to eventually build a free-standing team, and posting a win Saturday will give fuel for the nascent side’s growth.

Clearwater – having picked up a bit of that ‘Shinboner spirit’ in assuming the Kangas nickname – has been unable to parlay an excellent player list into success on the field. They’ve dropped both winter matches to date, and trail the pack with a 57-point scoring deficit.

Saturday’s match will be the final opportunity to get back on track as the Major League Footy Florida Winter League season heads into the stretch run toward the February 25 Championship Final.

The match will immediately follow this week’s combined training session, which begins at 10 AM.

All trainings, practices and competitions are always free, and are open to co-ed players of all ages and skill level.
