The Kangas’ Dustin Jones battles St. Pete rookie Jessie Hayes, Saturday in St. Petersburg. The 10.9.69 – 9.7.61 result moved Clearwater to 2-0.

A quick-starting Kangaroos attack struck early and often Saturday, as the shinboners ran out 10.9.69 – 9.7.61 winners over Starfish FC.

Fueled by veterans Jake Keglor, Pat Bilder and Dustin Jones, the Roos opened up a 23-point lead in the first stanza, and didn’t let up from there, heading into the big break up by a seemingly commanding 35 at the half.

Anyone expecting a cakewalk to the finish found themselves in for a shocker, as St. Pete – who’d come in with designs on the top of the Major League Footy ladder – staged a furious rally, closing the gap to within a goal early into the fourth frame.

Footy veteran Pat Bilder’s deft ball-handling helped propel the Kangas, Saturday in St. Pete.

With a booming Keglor major righting the Kangas’ ship in the closing minutes, the ‘Fish found themselves denied after a missed Kyle Roun supergoal try and the final 8-point margin.

The win makes the Kangaroos part of a three-team chase for the top of the table, as both St. Petersburg sides now find Clearwater (2-0) in striking distance.

Major League Footy returns Saturday, February 3, as the St. Petersburg Swans host the Greater Northern Philadelphia representative side.
