HIGH-FLYING BOMBERS TO RUMBLE WITH ‘FISH IN PRELIM
In an MLF Preliminary Final where anything is possible, the red-hot Tampa Bay Bombers will take on an equally-surging Starfish FC side this Saturday, with the results determining which side will advance to play the St. Petersburg Swans in the Championship Final, September 29.
The Bombers (6-2, 24 points) parlayed a comeback win over the Swans to rise to the top of the table, only to be passed up with St. Petersburg’s sweep of last weekend’s season-defining Showdown Carnival.
Once in danger of taking the Wooden Spoon, the ‘Fish rallied late in the season to rip off four straight and improve to 5-4.
Showdown losses by the Florida Lions (4-4, 16 points) and Miami Saints (4-2, 16 points) allowed Starfish FC to clinch one of three MLF Finals berths.
In the circuit’s scheduling mix, late-season fixtures are ‘flexed’ to create playoff match-ups.
Qualifying sides play a minimum of ten games, while clubs no longer in contention play eight matches.
This weekend’s Major League Preliminary Final was secured after the Lions and Saints were mathematically eliminated from securing a berth in the three-team Finals seeding.
As MLF player lists coalesce in advance of the circuit’s transition to an October-March Premiership Season schedule, it’s expected that the rosters for the Finals will become permanent for the 2018-19 season.
