For the first time in the 2018 Major League Footy Premiership Season, the St. Petersburg Swans are looking up at a new leader on the ladder.

Pacing the league through the first 20 weeks of the campaign, St. Pete suddenly finds itself dropped into second place after the Tampa Bay Bombers routed the Clearwater Kangas in both ends of a matinee twin-bill, Saturday, August 25.

That result moves the Bombers to 6-2 (24 points) with a one-game lead over St. Pete (5-3, 20 points) as the season heads into the run home.

In Saturday’s first match, Tampa Bay put on a convincing rout, posting a 1.11.3.79 – 4.3.27 trouncing in sultry conditions.

Game two saw Clearwater fall behind by 39 points, before finally managing to eke out a representative effort in the second half before falling 9.4.58 – 3.2.20.

With the Florida Lions (4-2) also closing in on the race for one of three Finals berths, the chase will only intensify from here on out.

Week 21 will see Starfish FC take on the Lakeland Tigers – with both sides also seeking an opportunity to move up in the standings.
