Major League Footy is excited to feature game play following the Footy 9s format of Australian Rules Football, as developed and sanctioned by Australian Football International.
Footy 9s is a fast, free-flowing brand of Aussie Rules – customized for action-packed play on American football (gridiron) fields.
Major League Footy and AFI Footy 9s are tailor-made to bring the best of Aussie Rules to America in a format that’s true to the spirit of footy (the world’s oldest football code) – while still also fresh, new and ultra-intense.
As its name indicates, one of the key differences in traditional Aussie Rules and Footy 9s is the number of players on the ground – Footy 9s is played with nine players with up to six reserves – making it much easier to field a competitive team here in the States.
And, since it’s played on a football field – there’s no need to hunt for something approximating a cricket ground (in short supply in the US).
The Footy 9s format features everything the world loves about Aussie Rules – impossible speckies, hard hits, great runs, precision passing and fantastic goals – all in a definitively more ‘Americanized’ format!
