FINALS BERTH A SPRINGBOARD FOR LIONS
A late-season run to secure one of the Top 3 seeds on the ladder?
A berth in the MLF Playoff (Preliminary Final)?
There’s only one last item to check off the Florida Lions‘ to-do list.
And, even though they’ll have to wait until the 2019-20 Premiership Season to avenge last Saturday’s 112-63 Championship Final loss to the St. Petersburg Swans, the hungry Lions are beginning to emerge as a potent force in the circuit’s Aussie Fives format.
As the 2018-19 season moved along, a young-but-experienced core of Kyle Roun, Josh Wurst, Curtis Speller, Jeff Grubb and Tom Mathew began to coalesce as a unit – especially in the campaign’s final month.
The top-scoring offense in the competition definitely flashed its mettle in the Prelim, dashing the Lakeland Tigers‘ flag hopes in a 186-72 blowout.
With a line-up that firmed up into a veritable force at the friendly confines of Largo Sports Complex, the Lions are virtually certain to field much the same roster when the 2019 Florida Derby Series kicks off, May 11.
For the Lions, though, the summer will just be biding time – they’ll be sharpening their claws for revenge come Autumn.
