BLOODS – ‘FISH CLASH IN MLF SEASON OPENER
Ball up is 11 AM EDT.
The Swans will be looking to avenge a shock 120-114 loss to the ‘Fish to close out the summer campaign, having only a month to ruminate over the last-moment defeat.
With Major League Footy pivoting to an October-March regular season schedule, the Swans may be eager to see a clean slate after an uneven summer circuit.
Although the Bloods finished 7-4 and atop the ladder as minor premiers, inconsistencies during a rough mid-season skid – punctuated by big losses to Tampa Bay and Miami – will top a list of corrective tasks for coaches Greg Bray and Matt Elliott heading into Autumn.
All four St. Pete losses in 2018 came in games that saw the opposition top the century mark on the scoreboard, and those defensive lapses contrast starkly with a 7-0 record when the Swans were able to control play.
Following last week’s MLF Territorial Allocation Draft, the two ‘cross-town’ clubs representing St. Petersburg – as well as the other Central Florida sides – will launch the new league year with player lists accentuated by a core group of local players.
With Starfish FC entering Year Five as the original St. Petersburg-based footy side, the team’s core group looks to start the 2018-19 MLF season with a reprise of the Summer Season Premiership victory.
